Wheel Bearing Broken After 10 Days

by Katy
(Coventry)

Hello

My 2002 Ford Ka recently failed it MOT due to the NSR Wheel beaing. This was replaced by a main dealer. They then passed the MOT.

The wheel bearing is now 'shot' after 10 days and no accident or any abnormal driving.

I presume this isnt normal. The vehicle is now at home waiting to be recovered. Am I liable for any costs?

Ive read above that it should now last for life...not 10 days.

Thank you for your help

Wheel bearing broken after 10 days
by: Eddie Carrara

Hi Katy,
Who ever the mechanic was that installed the bearing, obviously did something wrong. I recommend bringing it back to the shop and have them replace it again at no charge. Some wheel bearings will last the life of the car, but not all.
As I wrote in my article, wheel bearings fail because of either damage, a broke seal, or poor installation, and it sounds like your's is caused by poor installation.
As long as you didn't hit anything like a curb or a huge pothole, the bearing should not have failed this quickly, my guess is the the mechanic left the axle nut loose and ruined the bearing.
Let me know what happens Katy, thanks.

Eddie
